When most people think about an eye exam, they think glasses prescription. That is a small part of what we do.

A comprehensive exam at Pine Vision Care is a 30-to-45 minute medical evaluation of your eye health and, by extension, your overall health. We dilate your pupils to inspect the retina, optic nerve, and blood vessels. We test how well your eyes work together. We measure intraocular pressure to screen for glaucoma. And we look for early signs of diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disease, and even certain cancers — all of which can show up in the eye before they show up anywhere else.

What we actually screen for

Glaucoma — often called the silent thief of sight because it has no early symptoms. Macular degeneration. Cataracts. Diabetic retinopathy. Hypertensive changes in the retinal vessels. Dry eye disease (more on that in another post). Color vision changes. Binocular vision dysfunction.

How often you should come in

For most adults with no current eye health issues: every 1–2 years. For kids: yearly during the school years. For patients with diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune conditions, or a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration: yearly, no exceptions.

If it has been more than two years since your last exam, that is the sign to book one. Schedule your eye exam.
